The Council of Complaint, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) NWFP region has observed that certain cable operators are relaying CDs Channels and advertisements without obtaining license in NWFP.

The authority has warned all such operators to apply to in-house channel license or stop relay of such channels and advertisements forthwith. Otherwise stern action shall be initiated under relevant Pemra laws. A meeting of Council of Complaint (CoC) was held with the Commissioner of CoC former Chief Justice Abdul Rahim Kundi in the chair.

The meeting besides Regional General Manager Muhammad Asif was also attended by its members including Dr Salma Shaheen, Professor Azra Mateen, Hameed Asghar and Ghazanfer Bilour.

The meeting expressed concern that cable operators were relaying CDs channels through systems without approval of Pemra. They said that Pemra has announced new policy in which in-house channels were allowed under license. Cable operators have also been relaying advertisements in in-house channels under certain rules. However, cable operators were directed to take advantages of the new policy to streamline their business.
